My Guide To Making a Forum Empty
PostSubject: My Guide To Making a Forum   My Guide To Making a Forum EmptyTue Oct 28, 2008 3:03 am

Ever wanted to know how to make a good forum?
Ever wanted to master the Admin' panel?

Well here is your chance!
Follow this guide and I'm sure you will have a great forum straight away!
Getting started
Well first off you need a good forum maker..
Where to find one.....
Aha!!
Forumotion does the job!
Since I'm not aloud to advertise you'll have to search it Cool.

Now,You need to create your forum ..
All you need to do is fill out the forms - make sure you have an email adress as your going to be needing it!

Now you have your forum ready your probally wondering why your name is Admin and what it stands for..
Well,Admin is short for Administrator .
It means that you are in complete control of everything!
Now,you may be thinking that this is impossible to understand and you shouldn't of made the forum in the first place ..
But don't worry,It's so easy to understand once you get used to it Crying or Very sad .
Right,Now if you scroll down you will (Hopefully) See a linked text called ' Administration Panel ' .
Click on that,As soon as you click on it to the left there is a thing with ' Simple ' and 'Advanced ' It will be on Simple but I suggest you use Advanced because it has more stuff .

Now if you want to add categorys click on general then to the left there will be something called ' forum ' then below that there is 'Categorys and forums' - Click on that,There you can add categorys and forums.
Then there is the name of your forum,To the right there is a + sign.
Click on that and there will be a screen - There will be :
'Choose the kind of forum you want' there will be a drop down menu next to it.
There you can change it to a forum or a category.
A category is the bit where the forum goes in.
E.G Teh hang out > (Category name) Main forums > (Forum Name) Forum General and Help.
Below will be 'Forum Name' what you want to call the Forum (Not the website you just created!!) .
Then there will be 'Attached to ' .
And other things. You can also add descriptions to diffrent Forums and Categorys ! Along with that you can have a Image for it!

There is a little information you need to know aswell.
The Category will only show if you have a forum inside it.
Now,You might want to know a little more about 'Forums' .
Well,You can have sub - forums aswell .
And you might be wondering ' I know that but how do I add them ?? ' .
Well Jess is here to help Cool . You can add Sub - forums by going into 'Categories and forums' (Blue speech bubbles indicate Categories and green indicate Forums) .
Now,again click on the + sign and where the drop down menu is change that to 'forum' .
And fill out the rest etc..
And there you go!
You have your first Sub - forum!
But there may be something wrong....
To make it a propper Sub - forum you might need to go into Display>Homepage>Structure and Hierarchy .
Then Where it says ' Keep categories in one Index ' Choose Middle .
And there you go! Your sub - forum is done!

Now,When you go to your forum there is groups called ' Administrators ' and 'Moderators' .
Now you might think.. Hmm How do I make these?? ..
Well Jess can help you.. Again Cool .
First,You need to go into 'Administration panel' Or 'Admin Panel ' for short.
Then,At the Navigation Bar there is General and all that-Click On Users & Groups .
Then to the left there is Users then Groups - Look at Groups and click 'Group administration' .
From this panel you can administer all your usergroups. You can delete, create and modify existing groups. You may choose moderators, toggle open/closed group status and set the group name and description.
If you want to make a new usergroup click 'Create new group' at the right,Fill out the form and Voila!Your new Usergroup is finished!
Now,You can add & remove people from this usergroup!

Quote:
I have seen ranks in other forums.. how do I get my own in my forum?

Well once again the almighty Jess can help Suspect .
First you need to go to 'Admin Panel' Click 'Users & Groups'.
Then Below 'Groups' there is 'Ranks' Look at that and click 'Rank administration'.
Using this form you can add, modify, view and delete ranks. You can also create custom ranks which can be applied to a specific user via the user management tool.
If you want your own rank just click on 'Add new Rank' wich can be found by looking to the right.

Now,some of you have seen that you can have infractions and a currency - But don't know how to add it.. Well guess what..?
Jess can help you Shocked .
Now remember 'Admin Panel' ? Click on that and then go to Then on the Navigation bar or Nav bar for short you will see 'Modules' .
Click on that scroll down untill you see 'Roleplay game' Look at that untill you find 'Fields managment' click on that and there will be 'Display the character sheet' change that to yes then below that will be Change the wording "Character sheet" There you can change the name of it like we have Infractions and Chickens from (Username here) .
Then still here you scroll down and there will be 'Fields' and if you look to the right you will see 'Add field' then fill out the form and your done!

More coming soon~

You can do a lot with Forumotion forums.

http://cpsulphur.forumotion.com/forum.htm

This is not advertizing seeing as the site isn't in use.
